The expertise fork

~ by Alan W

Once you have put in the time and have started to become an expert at doing what you do, you start to feel like you should be amplifying your impact (and making more money doing it!).

Two common ways to accomplish this are:

1 - Keep doing what you’ve always been doing, ask for more from the organisation, and increase your attitude of involvement, and consider asking for greater responsibility.

2 - OWN your path to personal and professional fulfilment and carve out YOUR way to amplify impact and self actualisation.

Which path would you rather follow? If it’s the latter, plan your jump to entrepreneurship TODAY. The requirement? Conviction. THIS is what will get you through the journey, because it is a journey and there is no flat line. You simply cannot have it all worked out and a smooth sail into solopreneurship. This is because we don’t know what we don’t know, and we cannot ever predict what we will face on our quest, but the learning and discovery along the way will take you to places you never imagined. It is part of your history and you’re the author!

  • Be brave, not naive.

  • Take risks - make them calculated.

  • Be committed, not fair weather.

  • Don't just talk, follow through.

  • Sacrifice not sacrilege.

  • Get up. Get up again. And again. Do not give up.

  • Listen to the signs, there are lessons all around you.

  • Dig deep and be true to YOU.

  • Be genuine. No ‘fake it till you make it’.

  • Stick to what you’re good at.

  • Challenge yourself and your thinking.

  • Share. Collaborate. Give.

  • Always welcome perspective.

  • Embrace change as a constant.

  • Find opportunity in any situation.

  • Learn and teach.

  • Be open to receive and pay it forward.

  • Lead with empathy.

  • Always feed your curiosity.

This raw state of being will really challenge you personally and professionally. You WILL grow in all sorts of unexpected ways. Because of this, there is no room for regret. Be ready. Take the time to get as much as you can in place to cushion the falls, there will be falls. Speak to any creative entrepreneur about their journey, every one of them is captivating in their own right. And tell YOUR story one day. We have one life to live our best self. What are you doing today, and what are you MEANT to be doing in this life to make a real impact?
